Carving: Six Foot Turns
Artist: Roderick Brown
Location: Shames (My Mountain Co-op) Office
Address: 4805 Hwy BC-16
This beautiful wood carving of a snowboard carving a big turn was created by local artist, Roderick Brown of Cohowood Studio. The six-foot tall piece is appropriately called Six Foot Turns and is a celebration of the joy of snowboarding in deep powder - especially at Shames Mountain - the ski hill located just 45 minutes from Terrace.
“I remember my first run at Shames like it was yesterday. I didn't make many turns like the sculpture that day. It was more a series of face-planting and floundering in waist deep powder with a huge grin, as I made my way down the mountain. I love taking my family up there now and this piece is a nod to the hardworking folks that keep the wheels on Shames,” says Brown.
The sculpture is appropriately located in front of the Shames Mountain town office at the crossroads of Eby St. and Hwy 16 west - a symbol of the incredible outdoor recreational opportunities at our doorstep.
