Carving: The Logger
Created: 2019
Location: Corner of Lakelse Avenue and Emerson Street
In 2019, the City of Terrace had to remove an decades-old maple tree on the corner of Lakelse Ave. and Emerson St. The tree was rotting and posed a danger if it was not removed. But because the tree was one of the original trees said to be planted by George Little, the founder of the settler site of Terrace, there was a desire to maintain a piece of it by salvaging the lower six feet of the trunk and inviting Joerg Jung to transform it. Using a chainsaw and other tools, JJ carved the image of a logger out of the tree – a fitting ode to the long legacy of forestry industry in the region.
