Carving: Wings of Hope
Created: Summer 2021
Location: Corner of Kalum St. and Lakelse Ave.
It’s hard not to stop at the Wings of Hope installation and not take a photo. The two-sided wooden sculpture of a set of wings is purposely installed at a height that invites passersby to centre themselves between the wings to take a photo. The concept was inspired to create an interactive experience for people.
Working together, Jung and Hugon created two experiences on either side of the wings. One features a stylized design of eagle feathers and the other is inspired by traditional northwest coast form line. This collaboration enabled both artists to build on ideas they each had: JJ's desire for an interactive installation, and for Hugon, it built on an interactive art installation of wings that she had previously created for an art show at the Terrace Art Gallery.
