Mural: As She Dance
Created: Summer 2021
Location: Kermodei Friendship Society
Address: 4714 Park Avenue
In 2021 the Raven Tacuara collective collaborated with the Kermode Friendship Society and their wonderful staff to design and paint this mural. They worked together to bring awareness to the incredible work that the center does, and to the ongoing issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIWG) in Canada. The woman in the red dress represents awareness around this important issue. The cedar weaving is a nod to importance of cedar to Indigenous peoples in the north for social, cultural, medicinal and spiritual uses. And the rainbow ribbon represents inclusion for all people including the LGBTQ2S+ community and all people regardless of background.

The Raven Tacuara artist collective began in 2018 after four artists met working on the Rays of Life mural with Facundo Gastiazoro and Travis Hebert. The collective is a group of Indigenous artists from varied backgrounds who meld their artistic talents and experience to create stunning murals that have been painted in Terrace, Smithers and beyond.
